Understanding Stakeholder Perspectives on Autism Research

Principal Investigator (PI): Laura Foran Lewis, RN, PhD 

  • We are looking for people who are interested in autism and/or autism research to participate in a research study.
  • The study seeks to understand how various stakeholders use autism research and what aspects of research are important to them.
  • This study is titled: Understanding Stakeholder Perspectives on Autism Research and is taking place at the University of Vermont. 
  • To participate, you must be 18 years or older.
  • Participation is entirely online and involves complete a survey about your use of autism research and what aspects of autism research are important to you.
  • You may take however long or short to complete the survey depending on the amount you choose to share with us, and we anticipate it will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

Exploring Communication about Stress Responses between Autistic Adults and Healthcare Professionals

Principal Investigator (PI): Laura Foran Lewis, RN, PhD 

  • We are looking for autistic adults AND healthcare professionals who work with autistic adults to participate in a research study to explore communication about stress responses (often called “meltdowns” and/or “shutdowns”) between autistics and healthcare professionals.
  • We are also looking for feedback on a communication tool designed to facilitate conversations about stress responses in the healthcare setting.
  • This study is titled: Exploring Communication about Stress Responses between Autistic Adults and Healthcare Professionals and is being conducted at the University of Vermont.
  • This study uses a participatory action approach, meaning it has been designed in collaboration with autistic partners. All findings will be interpreted with autistic partners, who will serve as co-authors on any published work from this study.
  • To participate, you must be 18 years or older and identify as autistic (self- or formally- identified) OR work with autistic people in a healthcare setting.
  • Participation is entirely online and includes sharing your experiences communicating about stress responses in the healthcare setting and your thoughts about the communication tool.
  • You may take however long or short to complete the survey depending on the amount you choose to share with us, and we anticipate it will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
